British Values

The Department for Education recently reminded schools of the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

At St Peter & St Paul Church Primary School these link closely with the culture and ethos of our school, as we recognise and value everyone as individuals. The values we promote support the development of the children’s understanding of these concepts and are clearly demonstrated in the following ways:

  • respect is one of the identified school values
  • healthy debate about challenging subjects is encouraged
  • by accepting and celebrating all people as unique and special
  • by providing opportunities to engage with the benefits of our culturally diverse society
  • pupil voice encourages an understanding of democracy
  • children are taught about rules including the importance of British law
