Who's Who?

General Information
PE days: Tuesday and Wednesday
Please wear PE kit to school on both of these days. Dependent on the activity, PE may take place outside so please ensure that PE is weather appropriate, apply sun-cream and send sun hats (named) in to school.
Decodable reading books:
Decodable reading books are sent home every night. These books have been chosen to specifically support each pupil's learning journey. They are designed to support the children to develop their reading fluency, including pace and confidence. Rereading books is a key part of the Year 1 curriculum and hugely beneficial.
We will endeavour to change books each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If staff feel that a pupil would benefit from additional time to reread and practice with a book, then book will not be changed.
Please try to read every night. Please record the page read to in the reading record. If you have not finished a book, we will send the book home again.
Please ensure books are in school every day as staff read with the children each morning, and with the help of our reading volunteers, we use any other available opportunities to read with the children.
Non-decodable reading books
The children will have regular opportunities to pick and bring home a book from the class book corner or school library. This is a non-decodable book, not matched to the children's reading level. This book is to promote reading for pleasure and give the children opportunity to choose their own book. Please read this book with your child and allow them to share and enjoy. It is not intended for the child to read this independently. We will record the books sent home and they will not be able to pick a new book until the previous has been returned.
Our Days in Year 1
Transition into Year 1: As the pupils begin their journey in to Key Stage One, we will seek to gradually introduce them to a more structured style of learning with a greater focus on independent working.
Throughout the first few weeks of Year 1, there will be lots of opportunity for the children to choose their own learning (lots of play based activities). This will be interspersed with whole class inputs, adult-led small-group activities and some short whole-class activities in which pupils will all complete an activity at their table simultaneously. Over time, judged upon the needs of the class, the balance will shift towards more whole class activities and play-based learning choices will be phased out.
Curriculum Information
Please find below curriculum maps outlining the areas of learning we will be covering in each half term. For further subject information and policies, please visit the curriculum pages.
Knowledge Organisers
Please find below the knowledge organisers that support our learning each half term. Paper copies are also sent home in book bags at the beginning of each half term. Regularly discussing the content of these knowledge organisers, particularly the key vocabulary, is extremely beneficial for the pupils' progress. It helps them to feel confident within lessons and supports engagement.
